Album Info

Daybreak is the very first CD I was ever part of – but not the first album. Before this release, there was a self-titled, small run cassette prior to this album (“Room 224” is from that session). In a way it marks the end of an era as Jason left for Japan shortly after this. That inbetween/transition period is documented on The Unreleased Zippah Sessions 1994 – 1996 which finally saw the light of day in 2022.

There are songs on this album – especially “Room 224” and “Footprints” (one of the songs I love to play to this day) – that remain near and dear to my heart. “Room 224” has never been revisited in any format or played live in over 25 years and I may have to rectify that in some way.

Album Info

This one is a true archaeological find.

I knew that we had recorded more tracks of standards that did not wind up on Daybreak. I found a CD with the remainder of that session and two others I have little to no recollection of. Some of the tunes you will see on other releases but these are the earliest known studio recordings of them. “Bump” and “Karl” while similar, are not totally the same. A few songs never made it past this stage (“S of K” and “New Horizons”; “New Horizons” would become the basis of another tune later and “Hat Dance” became “Latin Leftovers” with a bit of rework).

I thought that The Slosberg Tapes album was the bridge to what came after; I was wrong. It was these three sessions. Enjoy!

This album is currently unavailable and may be re-released at a later date.

This is one of my favorite recording memories. There’s an energy to this recording. This lineup also was featured on Sessions at 7A

Now that I’ve unearthed the Zippah recordings from 1994 – 96, you really can see the progression of the band and the arrangements. It was great reuniting with Dan on Moving Forward.
